Blooming of the Brahma Kamal / Star of Bethlehem

A photo documentation.

The Brahma Kamal blooms for one night only.
It starts blooming around 7:00 PM and is seen in all its splendour around 10:00 PM.

I saw the tiny bud attached to the leaf on the 1st of August and tracked its progress every day. The stem grew downwards as straight as a pendulum and then started curving upwards – an indication the bud would bloom in a few days.

On the 13th of August at 11:30 AM I noticed that the tightly closed tip of the bud had opened a fraction to reveal slender petals ready to unfurl. The drama was beginning to unfold.

From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, I watched with fascination the Blooming of the Brahma Kamal. Grateful for being given this opportunity to photograph this divine flower.

Next morning the drama was over. The flower had closed.
